Bread

We had a couple of students over for dinner and a movie on Wednesday night. I made homemade chicken noodle soup, so I decided to try to make breadsticks to go with it. Now you have to realize that I only have a toaster oven which I am not good at using. Also it is getting colder, so our apartment is colder. It took longer for the bread to rise, so I was not sure it would turn out right. I have my good bread recipe on my computer, so I gave it a go.

Here is how it turned out.

I think it turned out really good. It tasted like home. I cooked the breadsticks in butter and garlic. They were delicious. I don't know if our Chinese friends liked it, but Gary and I loved it!

I was glad I made the attempt. Now that I know that I can do it, I will probably be making bread more often. It is a taste of home and reminds me of when my kids were little and we would make bread and eat a whole loaf straight out of the oven. Because there is nothing like warm bread with butter,

My recipe is easy. It only takes 90 minutes or so to make. Here is the recipe for those who are interested.

90 Minute Bread

3 T Yeast
1 quart luke warm water
1/2 c sugare
3 T oil
1 T salt
8-10 c flour

Mix all ingredients. Knead. Let rise 30 minutes. Mold loaves. Let rise another 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Have fun and enjoy homemade bread!

  1. Is that the length of time to bake in the toaster oven or a real oven? ??
